RHC Statement Regarding Media Reports on His Majesty King Abdullah II’s Bank Accounts | Jordan News
Ammon News – The Royal Hashemite Court has been following recently published media reports about His Majesty King Abdullah II’s bank accounts, which included inaccuracies and outdated and misleading information that was used to defame Jordan and His Majesty, as well than distort the truth.
In accordance with the principles of transparency and openness, the Royal Hashemite Court clarifies the following:
The total balance quoted in a number of reports is inaccurate and exaggerated, due to significant count duplication.
The majority of the amounts recorded in the accounts relate to the sale of a large Airbus 340 aircraft for $212 million and its replacement with a smaller, less expensive Gulfstream aircraft. Her Majesty had inherited two planes from His Majesty the late King Hussein, which were sold, with the resulting sum used to replace them more than once over the past 20 years, including the sale of the Airbus 340 and the purchase of the Gulfstream aircraft currently used by Her Majesty.
The excess sum resulting from the replacement of the large aircraft with a smaller one is used along with Her Majesty’s private assets and personal wealth to cover the private expenses of the Hashemite family and fund various royal initiatives over the past few years.
The closed accounts referenced in the reports include an account with deposits inherited by Her Majesty from her father, the late King Hussein.
As for the account created as a trust fund for the children of His Majesty King Abdullah II and opened in the name of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the funds came from the King’s private estate and the account was entrusted to their mother, because they were minors at the time.
Her Majesty’s private assets and wealth have always been independent of the Treasury and public funds, and they are administered by the Private Stock Exchange, which is a branch that has been part of the Royal Hashemite Court for more than 70 years.
The Royal Hashemite Court recalls that all international aid is subject to professional audits and their allocations are fully accounted for by the government and donor entities, in accordance with cooperation agreements subject to the highest standards of governance and control.
All allegations linking funds in these accounts to public funds or foreign aid are defamatory, baseless and deliberate attempts to misrepresent facts and systematically target Jordan’s reputation and Her Majesty’s credibility, especially after similar reports released last year which were based on leaks from previous years.
