ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), hearing the foreign funding case, said on Wednesday that the party does not have its own overseas account. A bench of three members of the ECP led by CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja, Shah Muhammad Jatoi and Nisar Ahmed Durrani heard the case. The PTI financial expert said that all foreign donors have deposited funds to the party through agent funds. Sindh commission member Nisar Durrani asked the PTI financial adviser that the names of the donors sound strange. Meanwhile, financial expert Najam Shah said the language and accent of many Pakistanis change when they go abroad. The commission asked why the ID numbers of those whose names were mentioned were not written down, to which PTI lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan replied that the ECP had made ID cards mandatory and donor mobile numbers in 2018. PTI lawyer Anwar Mansoor said registering names confirms that necessary donor information was kept from the start. PTI’s financial expert acknowledged that bank statements for PTI’s international accounts were not shared as these were not required despite the fact that the Oversight Committee in its agenda of April 25, 2018 and several subsequent orders had required PTI to submit all of its international accounts, including the six it had admitted to the review board. However, PTI lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan said that PTI does not maintain any international bank accounts. As requested by the CEC to conclude his arguments, the PTI financial expert concluded his arguments to which the PTI lawyer, Anwar Mansoor Khan, requested two additional days to once again summarize his legal arguments. Speaking to media outside the ECP, petitioner and founding member of PTI, Akbar S Babar, said that since 2014 he has been calling for a thorough investigation into the accounts of PTI and those of its four employees authorized to collect money. donations. Akbar S Babar said that when a party is illegally funded and hoisted to power, there is a program attached to it. Babar said the political and economic hitmen’s agenda is to create political chaos and cripple the economy to dictate international terms. He said, “We have reached the end point of the international conspiracy. Babar predicted revelations regarding major foreign funding of PTI and the direct involvement of PTI senior management. He further stated that the club PTI’s request for all funding cases was a futile attempt to get rid of the foreign funding case for years.
Party lawyer says all foreign donors have deposited funds for the party through agent funds
He said if other parties also took the route PTI took to delay the case for eight years, bundling all the cases would mean burying the foreign funding case for good.
It would be a great injustice to the people of Pakistan who want to know the truth. He said such a request implies that all corruption cases before the NAB are also consolidated, as well as all criminal cases.
Babar hoped there would be no more hurdles before the ECP, on one technical point or another, wrap up arguments next week and reserve judgment accordingly.
Later, the hearing was adjourned until June 14.
